British animator honorary president at Hiroshima festival

The man behind Britain's best-loved animation duo 'Wallace and Gromit' is set for a major role in a Hiroshima festival.?

Peter Lord has been unveiled as the international honorary president of the Hiroshima 2012: International Animation Festival, the Japan Times reports.

The creator, who was also behind 'Chicken Run', is no doubt proud to have been recognised in this way and was quoted as saying that "youthful energy continually challenges the assumptions of older generations".

He will be joined at the event by a fellow European, Polish animation director Aleksandra Korejwo, who hails from the city of Poznan.??

Lord's successful clay-pair rocketed to popularity in 1993 when 'Wallace and Gromit in the Wrong Trousers' hit British TV screens.

They turned into a national success spurring a number of sequels, including 'A Matter of Loaf and Death' in 2008.

Lord was born in Bristol in 1953 and once said: "We don't make animated films, we make films - that happen to be animated."
